Barrel Chair
The brilliant architect Frank Lloyd Wright created the first barrel chair and famously scolded clients who wanted to make any modifications.
Carlyle has since adapted the design. You can select your cushion fill, choose your fabric and we can even put on a swivel on it, if you like. Just don’t tell Frank.

Each Chair Includes
A true hardwood frame
We responsibly source maple, oak, and poplar from the Northeast. Our supplier uses sustainable forestry practices that support healthy forests and minimize environmental impact.
Heirloom quality
Heirloom quality starts with construction. Each corner is glued, double-doweled, screwed, and block-reinforced for strong, lasting joints. We use kiln-dried hardwood to prevent warping, ensuring every Carlyle piece holds its shape and durability for generations.
Graded-in fabric
Your chair includes any of our graded-in fabrics, with hundreds of colors and styles to choose from—many featuring enhanced durability and cleanable performance. Visit our showroom to explore the full selection or contact us for samples by mail.
Cushion fill
Our standard cushions feature Synthetic fills—Poly Dacron over foam in the seats and blown fiber in the backs—for a comfortable, supportive feel. For added luxury, you can upgrade to down and feather blends for an upcharge. Visit our showroom to experience all of our cushion fill options.
